"Marriott Courtyard": Took this on one of my walks home from work at night. I tried to process the lights rest of the image from the row of lights but I used the wrong selection and they just got brighter than I wanted. OH well....back to the PS drawing board.

"Osteospermum": I like these flowers a lot. You see them in gardens and flower boxes around the city. But never as a cut flower, guess cause the stems are not very long. So I bought a plant and took this in color and converted it to BW.

OK...I'm still working with it...got off of Auto 'bout as fast as I could. Tried aperture priority to get some bearings and then went to manual. Only shot in studio so far and I've yet to take it (Nikon D70s, BTW) for a walk....but I like it very much...so far.

"Trois" and "Orange Sherbert": I was looking for "Trois" on my CD's and came across the Dahlia image. I never really liked the crop and processing of the dahlia image, way too much blow out of the whites. So I left the crop full and reprocessed it and renamed it as well....it was Orange Creamcicle....don't ask....some concoction Jack and Jill Ice cream made when I was a kid.

"A Bouquet of Reds and Yellows": Shot this at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church last week and did some DA stuff on it. Like the contrasts of the bright colors of the bouquet against the neutrals of the wall behind.

"Daisies and Delphinium": OK...the they're "Crazy Daisies" which means they are dyed mums. But they were the most orangey thing I could find to go with the blues of the delphinium. And since the delphinium gradient includes some purple hues, there was just enough yellow in the mums, er ...daisies, to complement that as well. From the Complementary Colors III Challenge.

Time flies when your behind at work at the end of the month and you have big concert that is being rehearsed and performed all at the same time. I am frazzled and something had to give so this was put on the back burner. Better to play catch up on this. "Double Tulips": A little patch in the Kater Street Garden that I took last Saturday. My outdoor flower shots are tempered by my not being able to control the light and the subject. But this little patch of touble tulips stayed still and I thought they came out very nice.

Pansies I & II: So I saw these great flower boxes on the way home Saturday. Pansies, not my fav flower at all....I mean really the little buggers are so hearty you even see them every where in the middle of winter around here... do have some great colors and these looked very nice and were at eye level so they were easy to shoot. I put my 10x close up filter on and was shooting away when someone from inside the house came out. Well as I was not doing anything particularly wrong that I knew of, so I did not let her phase me. We had a little chat and noted that the flowers did look rather nice that day. Then she asked for a print or two and I side sure and even showed her a preview. She went back in and I shot some more. These are two of what I got. Gotta get the prints ready so I can take them by.

"Stock Exchange Dapples and Reflections"

Oh my...late again....been depressed about something or other....not sure what. Hopefully it will pass. So I was perusing items that I saved on my hard drive that I never processed and found one that I took in Dec'03 with my Fuji S602Z. Great camera. Been meaning to take it out again sometime, but I have really so bounded with the Fuji S7000 that I don't know what the results would be. Hope they'd be as good as this...well I like it...and I have no idea what I'm going be like when....well if....well when....well...we'll see.

Well I seem to be a day late and at least a dollar short...again! My Refraction of Light challenge entry did Ok. Got through round 1 of the MS Challenge but unless Nasti took a picture and dropped her camera (God Forbid!) while she was taking it, I don't think I'll make it past round 2. Heck, she's good the only way she'd not move on to the next round would be if she could not get the image out of the camera. Great cause. I will try it again next time around.

Oh my...well....the yellow challenge was interesting. It tried a few different things. One that I put it that did not enter was "Two Sunflowers". As you can see, I did not use my normal black velvet background instead using a piece of heavy yellow construction paper. It did not do to bad, in fact it was on three sites today....go figure. Always happens, I shoot more than one thing for a challenge and end up usually putting the wrong one in.

I really liked my challenge entry cause it was very different for me. I made some changes per suggestion received in the challenge and it won a site today as well. So maybe I wasn't entirely wrong for once. I am still fascinated that the drop turned out so well in this as it was shot at 1/16 sec.

I had a shift change for a couple of days and it has just thrown my regular routine off. Sorry this is so late. This past Sunday, in between church and work, was a fairly good shooting day. Had a nice time....even at work where I shot this. I just turned and... well you know its something you see that you hope you can get in the camera they way you see it in front of you and this sort of turn out that way. Later afternoon soon shining through a windows with the shadows of the blinds on a fine natural composition. I made a few adjustments for camera distortion and the regular processing routine did the rest.

"Life Un-Imitating Art": This was my alternate Best of 2002 Challenge entry. Dusted off the old CD's and reprocessed. This was my first POTD at a couple of sites and even won a second place on Kodak when they had monthly prizes, though it never won a POTD with them....hmmm...guess I'll re-enter it. The processing was a bit different from the original in that I cloned out a set of parking lot lights in the lower corner right over the boy by the easel/architectect thing behind the many with the Binonculars.
The premise of the picture was that they were tearing down a building across the street from where I worked. On the building was a mural. The mural was sometimes called the Comcast Mural, as Comcast sponsored it. The building was being torn down to make way for...you guess it...the new Comcast building....only they never started it until about 3 years later. The irony of the situation is that the mural was actually titled "Symbolic Building of a City". I just saw this and took it and that was it. But there was more to see when I uploaded it. The juxtaposition of the really wrecking crane and the construction crane in the mural along with the wrecking hooks dangling from the real crane hanging over the top of the mural. See what is left of mural and you see some people gathered looking up in awe of what was a new beautiful piece of architecture in the mural which has been replaced by the real life crane. A news conference for the new construction turns to a news story of protest of the destruction of the building and the mural.
I was always please with this image and I hope you are, too. Later it's late....don't forget to turn your clocks ahead!

"Live Together": I walked home from work one day recently and saw this building all by itself in a parking lot. As I got nearer, I saw this brightly colored mural on the side. The title is on the tree in the middle and the artists have all signed their names at the bottom. I shot this in three portrait mode images and made and stitched the three images together is PSElements 3.0. I wanted to get as much of the surroundings of the mural into the frame as I could. Made a few alterations to repair the merge but not much compared past pano efforts.

"Color Abstract Redux": You all remember 'Color Abstract' from back in January? Yes? Good. Well I put a full size image of it on the computer monitor and put a vase in front of it and this is what I got. Had to tone down some the light bright greens and blues a bit, but otherwise, the colors came out just fine. Later!

"Garden Rose Stained Glass": Not sure how this got this way. I wanted to do a water color DA of this image and found myself eventually drawing lines and erasing everything in the lines to a lower layer, except the main flower, and this is what I got. Took a while. Hope it was worth it! Later.

"Floating": Store window display for this year's flower show. Lots of editing and then I found I picked the wrong image of this set. Oh well. Got rid of street light reflections, bright areas in the store behind the back drop, creases in the backdrop as well as a gap around the center, a small bit of one flower on the right and a few of the visible strings holding the flowers in mid air.

"Forsythia Buds": Walked home from my voice lesson today in a very light rain. Went by the Kater Street Garden for the first time this year. Had a mac(ro) attack and shot everything, just about, with my 10x close up filter on top of the the UV and circular polarizer filters on the camera. I liked this one when I took it. The detail of the buds in full size is really fine. More from the garden tomorrow, unless I shoot on the way to work. Later!

"Angled PAFA": Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Shot on my way home from work, got out early but have to work Sunday in exchange. Shooting architecture can be a bit trying in cities due to narrow streets. This is not the most narrow of streets but it limits the ability to get a lot in the frame. I have been using this angle for a while . The top of the frame is leveled to the top of the building and the camera angled from there. As you can see, you can get a lot more of the flavor of the building in one shot than you might with either a strait on shot on a perspective shot with the building straight up and down in the image. "Primrose Seltzer": It's actually Diet Sprite. Display an image of a patch of primroses on my computer monitor and placed a 2 liter bottle of Diet Sprite in front. Shot in standard mode, not macro, with a 10x close up filter on the camera. The crop is about 40% of the image out of camera. (Guess it would be nice if you saw it...well....I'm maybe using it for the water challenge...so we'll see if it goes in or not.)

"Spring has Sprung": We had an all day symposium on the Brahms Requiem that we are preparing for our Anniversary Concert at the end of April. On the way back, we stopped at one of the choir members homes. Rob, who drove, works part time as a landscaper and wanted to see what had come up of all the bulbs they planted at this home. Took this there...not sure if it was one of his or not. Love the pale purple and yellow flowers against the fall and winter dross around them.

Just because I'm going to the flower show tomorrow I thought I'd share some of what I did with what I took last year. The first, "A Few Flowers by the Porch", was the first display I shot as it was right by the entrance to the show. The basic filters used on all of these are Buzz Simplifier No. 1 and Kyoto Color from Flaming Pear.

"Flowers by the Pound": This was probably the hardest of these to do...I merged together two images and did a lot of cloning and erasing to get it this way. I was very happy with the result.

"Garden Palette": Not a fan of diffusion but I used it a bit in this and it turn out OK. I cloned out a chair and its shadows to the the left of the palette and did some buzz and coloring along with a dreamy filter.

"Color Mosaic": I was messing around at the last minute, again, shooting for the Painting With Light II Challenge and I shot this. Most of the other images of this were blown out, but I like the colors and design of this one, especially the curly queue thing in the lower half. What is it? I bought a color spinner at the Mummers Day Parade on the 1st of the year on a whim. Did some stuff with it that I didn't like too much. Then, and I have no idea why, I bought another one at the NJ State Aquarium the weekend before last. So I held them both up in front of the camera and moved them in a 4 second or so exposure and I got this out of one of the brackets I shot. I didn't enter in the challenge cause there was no subject being light painted...it's really just light painting, period. Later!

"Three Tulips": These were a centerpiece at our meal prior to our concert yesterday. I asked if I could have this set cause I love the natural composition of the straight stems and flowers against the curves of the leaves. Nasty to light cause they shine a little. I covered the sides with reflecters and sent all the light above onto a piece of white poster board over the shooting area.

"A Glass of Union Station": Ooops again....bought everything up to put this in before I went to bed and just forgot to do it. Anyway....put an image of Union Station, Washington DC that I took at the DC Cherry Blossom DPC GTG last year and put the $Store glass in front. Tried a few others as well. The glass is getting quite a work out. Want to try to get a couple more of the glasses soon to see what a couple or three can do. Later!

"Red Lines, Yellow Columns"
For the life of me, I could not get a post in last night before I went to bed...nothing seemed to be working on the Hello side...so I gave up in frustration.
I processed this from Saturday....it was sort of funny....we arrived early at the aquarium and I saw this building and had to shoot it. I was walking towards it and ClubJuggle drove by. He rolled down his window and said, "You're going in the wrong direction! We're over there!" And I pointed to the building and said "Building! Pretty building!" And Juggle nodded his head knowlingly and drove on. I met up with everyone when I was done.
Sure wish the light had been better.

"Tropical Fish !": There were so many kids at the aquarium I could barely see straight let alone hear them yelling out the name of the fishes as the ran and slammed themselves into the side of the tanks! It really was funny at times...."FISHIES!!!!".... slam.... shot already to shoot, fish isn't even moving much ... and ..."FISHIES!!!" ...slam ...the vibrations scares the fish into a movment frenzy and all but knocks me over....never doubt the strength nor get in the way of a pre-schooler who nows his fish!

Oh and BTW...who ever came up with the quaint expression, usually whispered or said in a hushed tone, "Let's use our inside voices"? A) It does not work and B) I don't know about you but I really don't think the general public is ready to hear my inside voices.... what?.... what?... oh...yes?....what?....inside the house not inside the head voices?....ooops ....so very sorry ...never mind.LOL!

"Moment Observed": Cleaning files off as the HD is getting crowded and there's a DPC Philly GTG tomorrow at the NJ Aquarium so I'll need space for sure. I took this last September at the Rittenhouse Square Fine Arts Festival (or something like that...not sure of the exact name). Booths surrounded the entire park and there were some more inside. Lot's of great works I would love to own. This artist had a both near one of the corners and I shot this as this couple was sharing a moment...I think he said he would get some picture she really wanted...while the artist looked on. The entire image was simplified and then gausian blur applied in big doses to the artist's work so as not to infringe on her copyright. I blurred the park scene in the upper left on a whim but I think it is OK... Later... maybe some fishies tomorrow.
